GREENWICH WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL
I've lived on the East Coast for 6 years and have never been compelled to go to Conneticut until I learned about the Greenwich Wine and Food Festival. The event took place at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park (Sept 23rd-24th) and it happened to be a beautiful day. All the yumminess was set up under tents with outdoor seating throughout the park overlooking a beautiful body of water. So, great first impression of Connecticut!
The event included three segments:
-Grand Tasting: local restaurants, caterers, food and drink vendors offered mini bites and sips.
-Themed Tents & Showdowns: There were multiple themed tents including South of the Boarder & Grill Masters where there were a variety of Mexican and grilled items served. The Burger Battle and Sandwich Takedown were very entertaining. This is where restaurants served up their signature burger or sandwich for celebrity judges (Alex Guarnaschelli, Mar Murphy, Michel Nischan) to critique and choose a winner.
-Dinners Hosted by Celebrity Chefs: Sitdown dinners crafted by celebrity chefs, like Scott Conant & Adam Richman. The dinners weren't part of the general admission ticket and had to be purchased separately.
In addition to all the food there was a casino tent and live music!
I had a general admission ticket so I was able to explore the grand tasting tent and attend the showdowns. Overall, I really enjoyed the event but wasn't overly impressed with the food selection. There was a good variety of food but there weren't too many bites that I wanted seconds of.
I do recommend attending the event because overall it is a great way to spend the day. I mean who wouldn't want to spend 9 hours with unlimited food and drinks?! I would recommend doing one of the sit down dinners if you are interested in a high quality, well-crafted meal during the event.
